ask yourself when you look at a flower.. is seeing the whole thing needed to express its beauty? some times yes.. sometimes no.. in this case a more closer shot would of gave the image a better subject and brought out more beauty.. looking at the rocks and the green (along with the wilting flowers to the left and right) makes the picture cluttered and doesn't give a place for you to focus on. take a look at don's posting http://boatsnhoesyo.blogspot.com/2009/04/spring-has-sprung-on-farm.html the closeness the offsetting and the bonus of the glued or dead beetle posing :D make it a interesting photo and yet very simple.
