What happened to this place? Why have we stopped posting? I honestly enjoyed doing weekly assignments and getting feed back from those who know more about this art than i do. Can we please get this going again?

HOMEWORK

After last weeks huge success...  I was about to quit posting new assignments.  But after enough people called and wrote in I started to feel like a FOX television show and decided to post a new homework.  They only difference being unlike Seth MacFarlane I'm not getting and additional 100 Million dollars to keep going.  Sure he has to give half away in taxes, but that still leaves 50 Million... and THATS a lot of hookers!

If you've lasted this long through the post then you'll be delighted to know that this weeks (short) homework assignment is emPhasis.

More after the break and be sure to scroll down to watch the video!

Is This Cheating? Cont...

In addition to Chris' question, here's a link to Esquire's site with a quick clip of the footage the cover is actually taken from.

I'm a video producer.  I'm also an artist.  And though I wouldn't call myself a photographer I enjoy taking pictures.  From my personal perspective Film and Photography are two completely different animals that share many of the same theories.  But when does the line become grey?

The Red One and its brothers and sisters including the Red Scarlet (this one in particular is made to use as a DSLR) are amazing tools however I would consider this cheating.  It's close.  Real close.  So close that when I saw this cover for the first time over 12 hours ago I stated to ask myself this very question and only now am choosing a side of the fence to stand on.  But I think it's got a few toes over the line.  The whole idea behind photography is to capture that perfect moment.  But isn't half the fun trying to get it?  Looking.  Waiting.  "Sorry babe, the shot just didn't take.  You're gonna have to remove your clothes again...  That's right.  All of them"  But if you can just roll footage and take what the hell ever you want after the fact while you went and got coffee or played a round of golf then maybe you should just play golf to begin with and not worry about coming back to the office to sort through footage to make your perfect Christmas Card this year or entry for next months edition of Hustler's Beaver Hunt.

This is a phenomenal tool breaking previous boundaries and allows for unbelievable quality.  But in the the applied usage for this cover project, through creative, leans towards lazy in my eyes.  The Scarlet has a shutter button and accepts 35 mm lenses.  So if you want to shoot in 4k by all means do it, but don't shoot a short movie and then take stills from it showcasing your work as a photographer.  You can argue all day about how they both use lighting techniques and framing of the subject and yadda yadda yadda.  At the end of the day you're still not a photographer.

In closing:

You can spend your entire life looking for the perfect flower and it would not be a wasted life.  Look for the flower.  Don't wait for it to fall in your lap.

Is this cheating?

I found this article which i have mixed feelings about.
mostly on where does the skill of "capturing the moment" come when your shooting 30fps.

Read and post comments if you have any
